Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education

As all of our young people have significant and complex social and emotional mental health needs, the teaching of PSHE is central to our whole curriculum and provision.  We recognise that in order for our young people to be successful in their learning, we need to develop the skills and knowledge they need to make safe and informed decisions for themselves.

Our structured PSHE curriculum is based on best practice using objectives created by the PSHE Association.  Weekly lessons explore a wide range of themes such as digital safety, financial management and Sex and Relationships Education.  Social Development Opportunities allow children to experience new and challenging activities which broaden their cultural experiences and allow pupils to practice their social skills in a new context.  These are designed using the Universal Skills Builder Framework.  These skills continue to be developed in the Secondary provision within this framework.

In addition to our PSHE curriculum, we have daily sessions using a range of evidence-based programmes such as Zones of Regulation and Lego Therapy, which support children’s core skills in emotional literacy and self-regulation.  Opportunities for reflection and celebrating success take place throughout school life as we aim to support children to develop the core Learning Behaviours we feel our children need:
