Science
We recognise the importance learning in Science plays in supporting children to make sense of the world around them whilst developing their sense of curiosity. By the time our children leave Melrose Primary school; they will be able to ask scientific questions, hypothesise, predict, observe, record and conclude their scientific findings with confidence.
Science is a core subject taught weekly at Melrose Primary. The children also engage in a range of outdoor learning experiences to compliment the Science curriculum and develop their wider knowledge of the scientific world through carefully organised school activities including our Forest School provision. We also offer STEM activities through our Social Development Opportunities where pupils can consolidate their science knowledge and skills and explore ways science can impact on our lives in the future.
Our Science Curriculum follows the National Curriculum. As pupils join us at different stages and are taught in mixed aged classes, we carefully use assessment information to identify what pupils already know and can do.
Below is an overview of our Science Curriculum for 2022-23.
